LO1: Be able to research the development of digital media technologies to support the planning of a new product
My idea for a new interactive product is that you can upload photos of yourself to try on different makeup and hair pieces. This app will feature different types of makeup and hair colours and accessories to make it easier for an audience when trying to decide on a new beauty change, as they can try the products on the app and then purchase these products if they are happy with the outcome. When choosing different makeup and hair products it can put a lot of pressure on people, an example of this would be. When you need to buy a new foundation you may get the wrong shade and then you wont be able to wear the product as it can be too light or dark and then the product would be wasted because you can’t return the product as it is a used beauty product. I got this idea from looking at different beauty websites such as Boots and Superdrug, as these websites don’t offer this option however looking for different shades of products can be time consuming as you don’t want to get it wrong and the product be wasted, especially if you are ordering the products online.
This app would give companies such as Boots opportunities to gain a larger audience of online and in store shoppers as it will make people more likely to buy different beauty items as they know what they will look like when they purchase them. It will also help these companies with people trying to claim refunds for products which don’t work for them which will save the employees the stress of dealing with rude and verbally abusive customers.
This app will be cross promoted on things such as YouTube on different channels which are more beauty and lifestyle based as they will have simulacra target audiences and will appeal to these people more. It could also be advertised on things such as social media. This would reach the psychographic of my audience as the majority of people on social media care about what they look like and what impression they give off on people therefore would more likely would want to know what a product is going to look like before they purchase.
The Web 2.0 has helped me advertise this app as without it it would be harder to get my app known to people all over the world, therefore my app won't be as successful if Web 2.0 wasn't a thing. Web 2.0 is the second generation of the internet that include things such as Wikipedia, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram. As these other apps have come out the web has become larger, this is known as before Web 2.0 was around there was 40 million users however since Web 2.0 there is at least 1 billion users of the internet. By having these apps not only does it decrease marketing costs but through globalisation it allows companies to advertise products to a range of different countries all around the world for free using social media.
Through the development in technology has created more opportunities for app such as the one I am wanting to create to become more popular. Meaning that people are creating different ways to plan, produce, post-produce, advertise and distribute products and apps similar to mine. Synergy can be used to produce and promote the app with different brands of makeup and stores that stock the subjects which as featured in the app. Synergy is the most effective method of marketing and is when a company uses their subsidiaries to maximise the success of a product or brand. Therefore companies such as Boots and Superdrug will be able to promote my app as the makeup brands such as Loreal, NYX, Maybelline and Revolution will all be features of my app so you can try different colours and shades of products for the most loved and used brands before purchasing.
