LO4: Be able to create a proposal using converging technologies to exploit the identified new marks
The main idea for my product is to create an interactive app that allows you to upload images of your face which then you can try different shad of beauty items on your face, such as foundation to match your skin tone. This app will feature lots of different makeup items, in order to get the perfect colour or shade, if they are wanting to make a beauty change. I thought of this app as it will prevent people ordering the wrong shades of products and wasting them because they will not be able to send them back as they have been used so it wouldn’t be sanitary for someone else to then use that product, if you were able to send the back.
For the design and colour scheme of my app I took inspiration from Beautybay’s website. The reasoning for choosing this successful website is that it relates to what my app is for, beauty, and has the same target audience as the PhotoBeauty app. Therefore, by using the same design my app should reach the correct audience demographic, in order to make people want to use the app. The colours which i decided on is just a simple black and white theme, this shows that the app isn’t gender specific and also is accessible and able people who have disabilities with there eyes etc to read what things say on the app more clearly than if it was to have red and green text. This then gives it a simple design to help people use the app quickly and effectively so they can find what they need instead of spending ages trying to work on the app and then eventually giving up because they find it too complex.
The in which I will distribute my product, PhotoBeauty, i will use the App Store and Google play store because both if these current apps are more likely than not known to my target audience. Both of these apps are installed on to devices by default meaning that they are accessible for everyone who could potentially use the app which I will create as you will need to go through one of those apps to get the PhotoBeauty app on to the device. Once users use the google play or App Store then its straight forward and easy to use and download other apps on to their device, making this form of distribution is a fast and efficient way of getting the PhotoBeauty app on to a device. This means the audience can access the app on mobile devices or a tablet, this is because it is available to download on IOS or Android. The more accessible my app is to users meaning it is more likely to be use and have a wider audience.
To advice PhotoBeauty my main form of advertising, and the cheapest, will be below the line advertising on different social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat and Facebook, as all the platforms are well known all over the world and are used globally day to day, ensuring that all the content posted is aimed towards my target audience, to keep the apps relevant to the product. All the listed social media channels are easy to use and are accessible to anyone wherever they are as long as they are connected to the internet. As well as posting on to different social media platforms through the PhotoBeauty page, i will also use different beauty influencers such as Molly Mae to promote the app across her pages. By using well known beauty influencers it targets the app at the same target audience as my product, whilst making it more well known to her followers giving PhotoBeauty a larger audience, getting the app an increase in downloads. On apps such as twitter, users can create hashtags and tag the company into different posts, such as #photobeautytryon, to show the different looks which are created by users of the app, which will then make the app known by the followers of that person. Hashtags allows people to search the hashtags on the app to see what other people post and the different types of things that you can use on the app. When creating the app i can use the social media stories to give my audience and insight of what the app will look like and include, to make the audience want to use the app and see what other features it has. This will then make people want to download the app instantly when it is released as the preview on the stories will encourage them to use the app. However, to make sure that my app is known about on a larger scale I will use above the line method to advertise my app. I will use billboards, bus wrapping and posters around busy areas such as cities. By using these methods it will make the success of my app increase and reach a wider audience who may be interested in downloading the app.
The way in which this product will fill a gap in the market is for people who use online shopping to purchase beauty items. PhotoBeauty will prevent people from going in to stores such as Boots or Superdrug to go find out the shades of makeup which they need. Some of the shops sometimes don’t have all the testers available or they have been used multiple times therefore are a mess and unhygienic to use. It also saves time for customers as you don’t have to go out to purchase products and find your skin shade, you can just do it on the app and order it in the space of a couple of minutes. This app can also help the audience gain confidence as the app can show them what the makeup looks like on their skin, using an airbrush effect.
If i was to create this app it it would cost anywhere between £15k - £50k, and i could use an online app maker such as Kaddra or Apphive. However, I could also get a company to create this app like MobiDev. To advice my app typically it would be about 2-5% of the budget will go to the advertising portion, which will roughly work out a about £10k. In order to fund the app and advertising i will use an online founder such as Kickstart, that allows people who believe in the production of the app to donate money, as the think it would go far in the future.
